Update - Welcome to Geeky Bits!
Greetings all you wonderful folks out there in the tabletop gaming community!
I wanted to take this moment in the first update for the store to say a huge thank you to everyone who has made purchases up to this point. The early success of the store has been extremely positive, and I don't take for granted the fact that most retail businesses usually operate at a loss in their first year. So truly, thank you!
Up to this point, customers buying habits have made one thing loud and clear; people are here to shop for the generic dials and ship tokens! I totally understand this trend, and in truth the success of prototyping these particular items is what drove me to start this online store in the first place. As such I’m going to start holding a much larger inventory of both items, as well as expanding both ranges. Starting with the ship tokens, new designs will be up on the store shortly, featuring some basic ship silhouettes and coloured arcs. These are more time-consuming to produce due to having different colours on the same token, so please be aware this will be reflected in the price. My intention is not to make a totally exhaustive collection of all potential ship silhouettes, but I feel that having a range of the most common ones for a little extra bling is a fun option.
Also releasing shortly will be more tokens for our TCG range, compatible with the popular card game Star Wars Unlimited. Featured will be reminder tokens and card proxies for newly introduced mechanics in the game’s upcoming set. As with all the tokens I sell, I feel like this is a good time to remind people that these are non-official third party items, and I encourage everyone using them to make sure they have official game pieces to substitute in official tournament play when required. Having said that, who doesn’t love a bit of shiny blinged out black acrylic tokens to help show off your deck?
Expect these new items in addition to restocks of the dials and ship tokens in the very near future.
Lastly, I want to give a shout out to all my queer followers during pride month, hope you’re all happy and safe out there! I have been toying with the idea of making pride themed items to sell on the store, but I honestly do go back and forth in my own mind on whether this gesture would appear tokenistic (please excuse the pun). If I do end up doing this, I want for it to be a genuine gesture. Geeky Bits and the Hairy Nick channel have always and will always be a place for all folk to come, chill out, and chat gaming. At this point I have 2 main thoughts on moving forward with any pride themed gaming pieces sold through Geeky Bits. Firstly, it would be something not specifically released during pride month and would remain a permanent fixture of the store all year round. Secondly, I think it’s important I discuss this idea with more LGTBQIA+ folk and gain a better understanding on how to approach this, so feedback is welcome!
