Components designed to mate with X-wing ship bases

The original ship bases for X-wing (and other similar games) where designed to have cardboard components mate with them to create a solid connection (names the ship tokens and ship indicators). We produce our alternatives to these products from acrylic. This material is a little more premium feeling, easier to clean, and more durbale. However, due to the fact that acrylic doesn't yeild and conform it's shape like cardboard does, it does pose some compatibility issues, and isn't as "plug and play" as the original product.

After testing, we decided that the product is still worth producing and selling due to how managable these ocassional issues are. Apart from that, its worth pointing out that these issues are hardly new, as they all originate from tolerance variations from the official acrylic bases (just ask any X-wing play who has been in the game for several years). Never the less we feel it's responsible to make all consumers fully aware of what to expect when ordering from us, so we've included details on some common compatibility issues below and how to best manage them.

There are 2 main issues these manufacturing variances create. The first being that the slots used the mate with the ship markers have a relatively wide range of widths.

With cardboard tokens this is less of an issues, as the cardboard and conform to tighter or wider channels and hide the crimes of these manufacturing variances. With acrylic, we simply don't have this luxury, and some official bases may not mate properly with the ship markers, either not allowing them to slot in at all, or or being so loose that the markers don't stay in place. Consider using markers on your pilot cards instead, or checking compatibility across your full collection of ship bases as it's likely they will work with some but not others. If you are forced to use the acrylic markers with loose slots that don't hold them, use a small dot of poster tack in the channel to hold it in place.

The second issue the official caused by the official bases is plastic shrinkage. This isn't unusual, as this happens to most plastics over time, but this can cause a certain degree of warping, as shown in the image here.

The warped base causes the ship token to not sit flush with the edge of the base. This is easily remedied with  afew dots of poster tack between the ship token and the base.
